Fixing the Volkswagen in my Greasy GlovesfritzJan 18, 2010

I'm in my parents' garage. As I was rushing around at high speed knocking out todos (*1), I came by the yellow Volkswagen bus that needed to be fixed, so I'm down by the left rear wheel trying to put it back together. It seems it's been sitting there apart for a long time.

My dad comes by and sees what I'm doing. He asks me if anything has been improved, or if I'm just putting it back together like it was. I show him that there is this new part, a rubber and plastic thing with tentacles and caps (*2). It doesn't look quite the same as the old part, but I'm pretty sure it fits in its place.

The job is getting pretty greasy, and getting grease all over my gloves, my favorite warm REI ones that I use for biking and hiking. I was wearing them when I started the job, because my hands were cold, but I didn't think it was going to be so greasy. I wonder if I'll be able to wash them with orange-flavored mechanic's hand cleaner, and if they'll ever be the same.

(*1) I've been rushing around getting all sorts of things done all weekend, and for weeks really.

(*2) Rather reminds me of the water filter I attempted to install under the sink this weekend, and it didn't work, so I still have the water off awaiting service personnel.
