To Mom, Mother's Day 2005fritzMay 8, 2005

To the mom of the clan, on this motherly day,

Who has given so much, in her motherly way

And mothered so many, in one way or ‘nother,

That ‘most half of the county thinks of her as ‘mother’.

Well, actually, that’s not exactly correct,

One difference, to mention, I should not neglect,

The term ‘mother’ sounds kind of technically wrong

So ‘most everyone talks of her simply as ‘mom’.

So we thought we should choose you a gift to reflect

How you’ve out-mommed us all, and how deep we respect

What you’ve given to us, and indeed, all mankind

That somehow, and someway, we would just have to find

A wonderful gift, of such sophistication

To express all the depth of our appreciation

That would equal the love that you give to each brat,

But we pretty much had to just give up on that.

So what did we choose? Well, you’ll just have to see.

And I guess you’ll just have to believe that all we,

Knowing all that we do, in comparing, seems trite.

Hope that we can make each day a little more bright.
