To Victoria, Birthday 2018fritzJan 17, 2018

I'm not really sure you're the sport-watching kind
It seems makeup and sim-games come closer to mind
In fact, if I sit, and I try to recall
I cannot be too sure that you like sports at all!

You have no sporting shirts, you have no sporting hats
You have no sporting jackets to put on your cats
You have no sporting posters, and no sporting stickers
And no sporting rainy-day game-watching slickers
And speaking of sports, I'm not sure you can name
Even one single person of sport-playing fame!

Though encouraged by someone (I'm not naming names)
You did find yourself at some high school games
But hey, that was football, and outdoors, and cold
Not hard to imagine that scene could get old!

But basketball – how is this game played, at all?
Is it something to do with a net, and a ball?
Do they play on a field, arena, or court?
I'm not sure you know the details of this sport.

And how long do they play, and how big is the team?
If they talk of a three-point-shot, what does that mean?
What's the punishment if players get in a spat?
And how fouls work, does anybody know that?

Ah, but that's just details, and rules and such
Ain't nobody cares about those things that much
The important thing is, is it fun to go see
Such a sport-match, wherever it happens to be?

Well I don't know the answer, I can't say I do
What somebody thinks fun might not be, to you
But I do know that once – or at least, I can claim
You said “I'd like to see a real basketball game”.

And so here you are, here are tickets times three
They could be for you, and your mom, and for me
Or if you'd rather take you and your two bestest friends
Well that would be same, I think, lest we pretends
But if you'd prefer go alone, it's implied
You'll have two empty seats, that is, one on each side
Or if there are two others you'd rather have go
It's your birthday, so do what you like, don't you know!

Happy Birthday!
Fritz
