To Alona, Birthday 2005fritzJun 1, 2005

It was so long ago, weeks and months now, that we
Began planning to plan how your birthday would be
What a festive occasion was sure to occur
How we would plan something so special, for sure
That you’d have such a blast, you’d remember forever
And never do something so fun again, ever!

So we scratched at our heads, how the deep thinking do
Thinking what, oh what what what, would be right for you?
And we thought for an hour, then one moment more
Interruped not once by a knock on the door,
Till we thought of a good thought, a great one, oh very!
We thought about water slides - big ones, and scary!

But just one more thing we could add to the treat
That would make it a plan that could never be beat
The plan would be perfect, our problems resolved
If somehow there were roller-type coasters involved!

And wouldn’t you know, and, like, wouldn’t you guess
That we’re actually near to a place, more or less
That can offer both water fun and roller thrills
Why it didn’t occur to us yet, gives me chills!

It’s called Wild Waves, and Enchanted somesuch
And it’s not really so far away, not that much
The hours it’ll take – oh, around 2.5
But we’ve taken a much longer drive – and survived!

So we had us a plan that was fit to explode!
We’d awaken quite early, and get on the road
So that we could arrive at the first open gate
And go on all the rides without having to wait!
And then, in the afternoon, when it was hot
We could put on our swimsuits and swim a whole lot!
On the wildest slides south of I-don’t-know-where
And the waves, and the funnest pools that we could dare
Our plan sounded perfect, like such crazy fun,
That we planned it as soon as we could, on June One!

But there was one thing that we just couldn’t plan
And that was the weather, which wrecks where it can
So wouldn’t you know, on our favorite June One
They say there is no chance of seeing the sun
They’re planning for rain, and then rain, and more rain
When we saw the report, we said “this is insane”
They even said thunder and lightning and so
We could even believe that there might be some snow!
But anyway, anyhow, seems that June One
Will be no day for playing on rides, waves and sun.

But we won’t give up yet, because summer is soon
It ‘most always arrives sometime, somewhere in June
And as soon as the rays of the sun hit the ground
We’ll be off, we’ll be out, we’ll be so out of town
And we’ll have so much fun that we’ll feel upside-down

How long must we wait for this big dose of fun?
I don’t know. See, it really depends on the sun.
But how can we have your birthday on this day
If the rain just won’t stop, and it won’t go away?
But we’re sure you don’t mind, if our plan will come true
Staying thirteen, a bit, just one more week or two.

Happy almost-Birthday!
