To Jade, Christmas 2002fritzDec 25, 2002

For Jade, little six-year old child of song
It seems you’ve been very good all this year long
And I loaded my sleigh all up on Christmas Eve
With some special things for you, and tricks up my sleeve.

And all night as I was delivering toys
To the homes of the good little girls, and the boys
I thought I was sure, yes, I thought that I knew
That I had one more thing there in my sleigh just for you.

But then when I got there, when I got to your house
As quick as a wink, and quiet as a mouse
I realized with shock that one thing I had meant
To bring you was not there; I knew not where it went!

I was quite puzzled, I’m sure you agree
For things like this don’t often happen to me
I don’t often forget what what I’ve got for each kid,
And it seemed quite impossible that’s what I did!

But when in the morning, through all of the sno’
I got back to my workshop, back at the north po’
My elves came a-running, and yelling and such
So excited I couldn’t make sense of it much.

But after talking to them, I realized that I
Had not quite well prepared my red sleigh for the fly
And as I reached speed, and pulled my sled aloft,
Some things that weren’t tied on right simply fell off.

So I looked through the stuff that was stacked neatly there
Which my elves had all gathered together with care
I found, among the things that had fallen, I knew
Was the thing I’d intended on bringing to you!

Then it all made some sense, why, it all came quite clear
Why I didn’t have your present there – it was here
And now that I realize the error I made
I know I have something else to bring straight to Jade.

And you know how my sleigh works, my secret of flight
Is some magic that only works on Christmas night
So I’m sending some elves out on foot, with your thing
And they’ll come straight to Fritz’s; your present they’ll bring

And if I am correct, and our maps are all right
I think it will get to you tomorrow night.
